ATHENS, Ohio – Diagnostic Hybrids was the exclusive sponsor of the Emeritus Lissitzky Career Award at the 34th Annual Meeting of the European Thyroid Association in Lisbon, Portugal. The prize is awarded biannually to a distinguished member of the association who has made life-long contributions to the European thyroid research community.
This year, the prize was presented to “well-known thyroid scientist Prof. Gabriela Morreale of Madrid for her excellent long-time achievements,” according to Prof. George J. Kahaly, Treasurer of the European Thyroid Association. Morreale studies the relationship between pregnancy and thyroid function.
The award was presented in a morning ceremony held on Sept. 6 at the University of Lisbon and included a research grant, as well as travel expenses, accommodations, and a medal.
“Diagnostic Hybrids is proud to be a supporter of the European Thyroid Association and its leadership in furthering thyroid research in Europe and across the globe,” said Jeff Houtz, Senior Product Manager for Diagnostic Hybrids’ thyroid testing products. “Sponsorship of this award represents our appreciation for the organization’s efforts and our hope for continued successful collaboration with its members.”
Diagnostic Hybrids recently launched the ThyretainTM TSI Reporter BioAssay, the first FDA-cleared test that specifically detects thyroid stimulating immunoglobulin in patient serum. Thyretain is to be used as an aid in the differential diagnosis of Graves’ disease, an autoimmune thyroid disorder that affects 1-2% of the population1 and can be difficult to diagnose due to nonspecific early symptoms.
The 34th Annual Meeting of the European Thyroid Association was held at the University of Lisbon’s Aula Magna from Sept. 5 to Sept. 9, 2009. For more information, visit www.eta09.com.
