Diagnostic HYBRIDS Announces Release of New Stain Kit for Identification of Metapneumovirus Antigens

July 12, 2006
Diagnostic HYBRIDS announced today the release of a new monoclonal antibody stain test system that detects multiple antigens associated with Metapneumovirus (MPV) infections. This kit will be initially available exclusively outside the United States. The MPV Stain Kit is presently under review by the United States Food and Drug Administration and thus not yet available as a 510(k) cleared product in the U.S. Diagnostic HYBRIDS obtained exclusive commercial rights to the A1, A2, B1, and B2-specific monoclonal antibodies in 2006 from the IRCCS Policlinico San Matteo, Pavia, Italy for use in diagnosing MPV infections. Multiple clinical research posters detailing the use of the MPV Kit were presented at the 22nd Clinical Virology Symposium in Clearwater Beach, Florida this past May.

Metapneumovirus is an emerging respiratory virus first identified in 2001. MPV infections frequently occur in infants with symptoms similar to those of respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), characterized by influenza-like symptoms such as high fever, severe cough, difficulty breathing, wheezing, vomiting, and diarrhea.
