Thyroid Stimulating Immunoglobulins (TSI) are linked to an autoimmune thyroid disorder called Graves’ disease. In this disease, the TSI bind to the thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) receptors (TSHR) of the thyroid gland, causing an over-production of thyroid hormones. This can lead to a number of different symptoms, making the initial diagnosis of thyroid disorders difficult. However, the specific detection of TSI in conjunction with other clinical determinations can be used for differential diagnosis of Graves’ disease. Once diagnosed, the disease has a variety of treatment options.
